Ajax – Chelsea
Even after the departures of Mathijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong, Ajax remain as good as they were last season. On Wednesday night the Dutch side hosts Chelsea in a game from Group H of the Champions League and the fans hope of another great performance by their boys.
They way Ajax started their participation in the Champions League group stage couldn’t been better. Right now Erik ten Hag’s team is leading the group with 6 points won from two games played and a flawless goal difference of 6-0. So far the Dutch champions have achieved two 3-0 wins over Lille and Valencia.
In the previous round Ajax showed everyone that they can do it away from home, too. The last season semi-finalists travelled to Spain to face Valencia and they conquered the Estadio Mestalla with an amazing 3-0 win. Until halftime Ten Hag’s boys already had a strong lead, thanks to the goals of Hakim Ziyech and Quincy Promes. After the break Ajax continued to play much better than Los Che, adding one more goal to their tally. Donny van de Beek recieved an assist from Dusan Tadic and also put the ball behind the back of Ajax’s former goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.
But Chelsea are not coming to Amsterdam with the thought of being an underdog. After a difficult start of the season, the Blues’ new manager Frank Lampard is starting to find the right path for the team. The 2012 winners of the Champions League are in a run of five consecutive wins in all competitions, which is pleasing for the club’s fans. Few days ago Chelsea hosted Newcastle United at the Stamford Bridge and achieved a 1-0 win.
Right now the Blues are third in Group H with 3 points won, being on par with the second Valencia. You can be sure that the English side would like to improve this position in the group.
The game between Ajax and Chelsea at the Johan Cruijff Stadium in Amsterdam is difficult for prediction, because both teams look ready to fight for the three points. It’s going to be very interesting, no doubt about that.
