Football News – Porto-Monaco

Porto welcomes Monaco at the Estadio Do Dragao, thinking about the second place in Group G and qualifying for the knockout phase of the Champions League.

Right now Porto are second in Group G, being on par with RB Leipzig – both teams have 7 points won so far. No matter what happens in the match between RB Leipzig and Besiktas in Germany, a win against Monaco will guarantee Porto a place in the next phase of the tournament.

This is a great chance for the Dragons. They are holding their faith at their own hands and they can clinch their place in the 1/8-finals in front of their fans. You can be sure that Estadio Do Dragao will be filled until the last seat. This is all or nothing type of situation for the Portuguese giant.

Monaco on the other hand are one of the big dissapointments in the Champions League this season. Last season the French team reached the 1/2-finals of the Champions League, but now they have just two points won from five games played.

It’s obvious why Leonardo Jardim’s team regressed, compared to last season. Monaco sold a lot of their key players and it’s always difficult to replace your biggest figures in the team. The club’s fans still hoped that Monaco could continue to perform like they did last season, but simple logic told us that this is nearly impossible.

Porto are the big favourites in this clash. Monaco do not have what to play anymore, except for their own name and reputation. For Porto it’s a much bigger picture – they are very close to qualifying for the 1/8-finals, but they still have to make that final step. And now they can make it in front of their own fans, which is increasing their chances of doing so.
