Girona – Real Madrid
Girona hosts Real Madrid in a match from the second round of the Spanish La Liga. Let’s take a look at this clash and see what’s going on with these two teams.
Last season was a pure success for Girona. The newcomers from Catalonia finished 10th in the league, proving to be a solid team. The most important thing is that Girona stayed away from the relegation fight and had a very comfortable presence in the league. They recorded some impressive results, including beating at home their next opponent and current champions at the time Real Madrid.
The Catalan team started the new season with a 0-0 draw at home against Real Valladolid. Maybe this result was a little bit dissapointing for the team’s fans, but at least Girona avoided starting the new campaign with a loss. A point is still a point and Girona are going to need these points.
Real Madrid began the new season with a comfortable 2-0 win at home against Getafe. This was also Julen Lopetegui’s La Liga debut as a manager of the Los Blancos. Now everyone wants to see how Real Madrid are going to do without Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese phenomenon was sold to Juventus and the most surprising thing is that Real Madrid didn’t sign a direct replacement to him.
For sure Madrid’s firepower is going to be reduced without a goalscorer like Cristiano. Now players like Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio will have to take a greater responbility and replace Ronaldo. But can a player like him be really replaced?
Real Madrid are favourites against Girona, of course, but remember that last season they lost their visit there. Girona are a tough team to play against and we expect that it won’t be easy for Real Madrid to beat them.
