Leganes – Real Madrid
The new champion Real Madrid will finish their season in La Liga with a visit to Leganes in the last 38th game of the season.
For Los Blancos this is going to be a closure of one successful season in the Spanish league. After two consecutive titles for Barcelona, Real Madrid finally got back on the throne. It officially happened after a 2-1 win at home against Villarreal on Thursday. This way Madrid increased their lead in front of Barcelona to 7 points.
When the season was restarted after the coronavirus pandemic, Real Madrid were two points behind Barcelona. Things really changed after this, though. Zinedine Zidane’s team won all of its matches since the restart of the campaign. Given the fact that Barca didn’t show a good face and lost too many points, it’s not surprising that Zidane’s team triumphed.
Against Villarreal Los Blancos secured another win. Karim Benzema once again proved to be one of the leaders of the team scoring twice for the hosts. At the end of the game Iborra scored for the Yellow Submarine, but this was everything the visitors had to offer.
Let’s take a second to discuss Leganes, too. Javier Aguirre’s team is on the brink of relegation. Right now Leganes are 18th in the league with 35 points, one point behind Celta. What Leganes can do now is to hope for a positive result against Real Madrid and a failure for Celta against Espanyol. This scenario does not look very likely, though.
Leganes did everything they could in these last few rounds, though. They showed some spirit and won three of their last four matches in the league. Including in the previous round against Athletic Bilbao. But maybe it’s going to be too late for them.
That’s our thoughts about the La Liga fixture between Leganes and Real Madrid from the last 38th round of the league. Can Leganes do a miracle here and survive? We shall see.
