Switzerland – Ireland

Switzerland faces Ireland at the Stade de Geneve in a game from Group D of the European qualifiers. The situation in this group is really interesting at the moment, so let us take a look at it.

At this point Ireland are leaders in this group with 12 points won, being on par with the second Denmark. For Switzerland this match is crucial, because they are third in the group with 8 points. For Vladimir Petkovic and his players it’s really important to take the win and move closer to the first two teams in the group.

Ireland are still unbeaten in this group. From six games played so far, the Irish side have a record of three wins and three draws. In their last two games the Green and White Army made two draws against Switzerland and Georgia, so now they will try to get back on their winning ways.

Ireland and Switzerland met in Dublin in September, when the game ended with a 1-1 draw. Fabian Schar opened the score for the visitors, but the hosts equalised with a goal from David McGoldrick just five minutes before the end.

How we pointed out, Switzerland are currently third in this group, being on four points behind Ireland and Denmark. But also having a game in hand, which is pretty important to note.

The Swiss team will try to get back on its feet after the first defeat they suffered in the group. Few days ago Switzerland visited Denmark in Copenhagen and suffered a 0-1 loss. Yussuf Poulsen scored the only goal in the game just six minutes before the end. So far the Swiss team won just two of its five games in Group D, so they will try to improve these stats in order to qualify for the Euro 2020.

It’s going to be a really interesting game when Switzerland hosts Ireland on Tuesday. One of these two teams could make a solid step towards the next European championship.
