Tennis News – Citi Open
The Citi Open tennis tournament in the American capital Washington is underway. We already watched some of the first games in the competitin.
Nicolas Mahut from France reached the second round after beating Thomas Fabbiano from Italy with 6-1 7-6. Meanwhile Henri Laaksonen from Switzerland beat Vasek Pospisil with 6-7 6-4 6-3 and also qualified for the next round. The experienced veteran from Israel Dudi Sela was stopped by the American Jared Donaldson, who beat him with 6-7 6-4 6-3.
In another game from the first round, the Russian Danill Medvedev prevailed over Reilly Opelka from USA in a tough game – 6-7 6-3 7-6. It was also a successful day for Tommy Paul, who recieved a wild card for the tournament. He beat in the first round Casper Ruud from the Netherlands – 3-6 7-5 3-0 and a retirement from Ruud.
Meanwhile the fan favourite Donald Young from the USA beat his countryman Tim Smyczek with 4-6 6-3 6-4. In the same time Yuki Bhambri from India caused an upset and beat the American Stefan Kozlov with 7-5 2-0 and a retirement from Kozlov.
We are going to see some interesting matches in the second round.
The №3 seeded Milos Raonic will face Nicolas Mahut, while the fan favourite and №14 seeded Steve Johnson from the USA expect a battle with Danill Medvedev.
The №13 seeded Juan Martin del Potro is one of the names who attract interest in Washington. The former US Open champion will face Lukas Lacko from Slovakia in another game from the 2nd round.
The №1 seeded Dominic Thiem from Austria is facing Henri Laaksonen from Switzerland. In same time Alexander Zverev expects the winner of the match between Jordan Thompson (AUS) and Ruben Bemelmans (BEL).
